2 stars Poor Lab Server Performance
3/25/2019 1:28:11 PM - Dahmear - newark, DE US

The lab servers perform very sub par to what I expected from Boson. You have to constantly reset your lab session due timeouts and abnormal device behavior. There are valuable lessons to be learned from the labs, but you will have to make sure you have a lot time on your hands before starting a practice lab. Otherwise, you won't have time to complete anything due to excessive lab resets.

1 star Very Disappointing
9/23/2018 12:14:53 PM - Shawn - Amarillo, TX US

After using Boson lab sims in the past, I was excited to try the 210-260 IINS labs. Previous labs used a simulator and were an awesome resource for passing the cert tests and just for learning the material in general. These labs however, are based on real hardware and they are full of problems. The first lab was really bad, but they seemed to approve on the second lab. Things just went downhill from there. The very first step on some labs fail. For example, the STP/portfast lab (#5, I think), the first step is to ping from one box to another to ensure pings work. Even with all the devices powered on and trying to reset them all, the pings always failed for me. The whole lab is based on these pings being successful. I wish I could get a refund, these labs are not worth spending any time on them. I wouldn't recommend using them even if they were free, which they should be based on the quality. Such as shame after the other Cisco labs being so good.

4 stars First Run

The labs were relatively easy. There were a few errors, that were not that hard to figure out. The most benefit I received was performing tasks in ASDM, because I primarily do command line at work. I did appreciate the CLI policy NAT's on the ASAFW. I do mine slightly different at work, but it was nice to see it done this way.

My only criticism is, I wish it had more CCP. This is a tool that I don't get to use at work. Security standards are work limit access to routers and switches to ssh.

4 stars Too many faults; Day 1 | Getting better though; Day 2 |
11/26/2017 1:33:00 PM - Michael - Salt Lake City, UT US

Loading and accessing the lab went well and is pretty breezy. The problem is that there are too many faults with this lab. Mind you, I haven't even been able to successfully get through Lab-1: exercise-1.

Fault #1: Device takes way to long to refresh after enter a banner command when doing AutoSecure. It has been at least 10-15min each time. Resetting, refreshing, nor relaunching resolves this issue.

Fault #2: All commands entered via AutoSecure are not saved and transferred over to section 2 of the lab where you are to verify.

Fault #3: Some commands are not accepted via AutoSecure. I only assume this because they are not shown in the running-config when verifying.

My Opinion: I don't think that the issue is with the actual equipment. What I do know is this: I purchased this to learn and get hands-on with the detailed outline of the lab topics. Not to figure out what's wrong with this lab setup.

I was very excited initially. However, as I am only on the first lab exercise and have run into these problems, I am very dissatisfied. I should be able to follow these labs step by step, as I have, and have a successful outcome with the topics and learning points. This is not the case.

I am very disappointed with my initial experience with Boson Labs. Great concept, but not a good application and experience. Thank you.

Made it through Lab-1: exercise-1; some commands still not accepted via autosecure. Device still hangs at point of entering the banner via autosecure. It only moves forward after entering random characters and hitting enter multiple times. RSA keys finally generated via autosecure, which were not generating initially. Still not able to observe local user account in running-config when created via autosecure.

Working Lab-1: exercise-2 now and am observing no problems thus far. Increasing to 3 stars.

Completed Lab-1: exercises 1-3 (total lab complete). Observed no additional faults with implementation or lab instructions. The outlook for this product has greatly improved. Still not sure what the issue is with Lab-1: exercise-1 "autosecure" implementation.

Increasing to 4 stars. I feel the value and am gaining satisfaction.
